IF you’re looking to make the most of the autumn weather, this gentle circular walk from Glazebury offers the perfect blend of fresh countryside air, woodland charm, and quiet lanes.
The walk begins at The Raven Inn on Warrington Road, where you can park before setting off.
From the front entrance or car park, cross Warrington Road, turn left, and follow the pavement until you reach Fowley Common Lane.
Turn right here and continue along the quiet lane for about 250 metres.
Soon, you’ll spot a spur path on the left - take it, then immediately turn right onto a track near Hebden Avenue.
After around 150 metres, cross a stile on your right and head over a wooden footbridge tucked into the corner of the field.
The path leads you back to Warrington Road, where you will need to turn right once more.
After another short stretch along the pavement, look out for a track on the right just before the mini roundabout.
This leads you away from the road and back into more peaceful surroundings.
Follow it for 300 metres until it meets a road, then turn right.
As you approach Culcheth Hall Farm Barns, take the public footpath on the right.
This longer stretch really lets you soak in the countryside.
Keep an eye out for a large chestnut tree where you’ll turn right, following the footpath signs.
Walk alongside woodland, with Culcheth High School visible off to your right, then pass through a metal gate and into an open field.
Cross the field diagonally, aiming for the red-and-white marker post ahead.
At the far side, turn right near a slightly rickety stile and metal gate.
One of the highlights of this walk comes next - a winding woodland path.
Emerging from the woodland, cross a low stile and continue around the edge of the field, ignoring the first stile and footbridge you see.
Instead, keep curving gently to the right until you reach a metal kissing gate.
Pass through and turn right.
This final stretch leads you back to Fowley Common Lane - turn left and follow it until you return to Warrington Road.
Cross carefully, turn left, and retrace your steps along the pavement back to The Raven Inn.
After your walk, you can treat yourself to a refreshing beverage or a bite to eat.
