WHEN keen motorcyclist Duncan Lawson lost his leg in a road accident over 20 years ago he built himself a trike so he could keep riding.

Since then the gifted builder and mender has designed all his own machines.

Now he has started his own business Notafridge.co.uk.Ltd at a Walter Leigh Way unit on the Moss Industrial Estate.

His wife Doreen explained the unusual company name.

She said: ”It came about because Duncan, who prefers to be known as Saf, is brilliant at repairing things - except refrigerators.”

He is a dab hand at custom chops, trikes and streetfighters, can build anything from bespoke frames to petrol tanks and is an expert at specialist alloy welding, servicing and custom painting.

Forty-five-years-old Duncan, of Stout Street, Leigh, spent months converting his 1000cc Cagiva Raptor, a limited edition top of the range Italian bike, into a three wheeler.

A mechanic and motor bike man all his life, he lost a leg above the knee in a collision with a lorry in Peterborough, and after spending nine months in hospital got back in the saddle.

He is a member of the Motorcycle Action Group and a keen charity worker and found a trike easier to ride because he doesn't fall off.

His new business is open seven days a week, 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sundays, by appointment only.

Doreen said: “The business is taking off, despite the credit crunch, and we are hoping to help other local businesses by buying all our materials in the Leigh and Wigan areas.”
