CARER Bob Saunders has been appointed a non-executive director for Ashton, Leigh and Wigan Community Healthcare.
He is a former director of community protection at Wigan Council, where he worked for almost 20 years before retiring in February last year.
His background is in environmental health but has been the chief officer for a range of council functions including public health, community safety, licensing, trading standards and urban renewal.
Bob hails from London but moved to the area in 1989.
As the main carer for his father he is particularly passionate about championing the views of patients and their carers and ensuring that more is done to provide healthcare in convenient locations, closer to home.
He took up the position yesterday for a period of four years and he will receive £6,005 per annum.
