WIGAN Council is making sure youngsters enjoy the canal and stay safe this summer.

The annual canalside project, set to run from July 20 to August 28, provides young people aged 11 – 21 with a free opportunity to get out on the canals in canoes, learn a little local history, try something fun and above all learn about safety on the water.

Sessions take place at eight different venues including Pennington and Plank Lane.

Individuals and groups of friends to youth groups, Scouts, Guides and community groups are welcome.

All sessions are free, run by qualified instructors and are open to anyone aged 11-21. Those under 16 must take a signed parental consent form on the day.

Those taking part should take a change of clothes and a towel. All other equipment will be provided.
