NEWCHURCH WI were introduced to the process of “Spinning and Weaving” by speaker Mary Houseman.
She took members through the stages from raw fleece to fabric via combing, spinning and weaving with the aid of two types of loom and samples of different wool textures and patterns.
Mary then judged the competition for the best hand-woven item. Amy Williams was the winner followed by Jean Greig and Olive Lee in second and third.
The group, who have bought a brick for the new Culcheth High School, were introduced to new committee member Margaret Harrop.
Dates for diaries this month: Luncheon club at the Cherry Tree and the Royal Exchange theatre trip on November 18, Mosslands Group's trip to Chatsworth on November 21, the monthly walk on November 26 and a shopping trip to Chester on December 1.
