LEIGH’S past characters were brought back to life by Jack Pendlebury.
Speaking at Atherton Baptist Church Fellowship he recalled Jesse “The Cropper” Graham, herbalist Charlie Abbott and Garrick owner Roy Jackson.
In his topic “Pubs, Pits and People” he told of the Old Cock Inn becoming Leigh’s first workhouse in 1825 - later the site of the Regal Cinema in 1938- and the highs and lows of local pits.
