A BUILDING used to store precious historical artefacts is to be sold off by the district council.
The council owned Kyngston House in Inkerman Road currently houses stones and memorabilia from archaeological digs along with items not on show at museums across the district.
The building is not open to the public and the council is keen to sell off the building to raise some much needed capital funds.
St Albans District councillor Melvyn Teare, portfolio holder for heritage, arts and tourism said the council had been considering the sell-off for some time.
He added: "Parts of the building are not being used and the building is outside our practical needs.
"We need to bring in some capital receipts to fund other projects."
Many of the artefacts stored at Kyngston House are currently being moved to the council's business centre in Sandridge where they will be kept.
Councillor Teare said the move should be completed by the end of the year with Kyngston House going on the market next year.
