LIKE many sports teams across the country, Leigh Genesis have suffered the wrath of the cold weather and have been forced to abandon fixtures.

Saturday’s Evo-Stik First Division North match against Woodley Sports was postponed due to a frozen Crilly Park pitch, but has been rescheduled to take place on Tuesday January 11, 2011 with a 7.45pm kick off.

Genesis’ next match is due to be played against Prescot Cables at Crilly Park on Saturday, kick off 3pm, but a considerable increase in temperature will be needed in order for the game to go ahead.

Leigh’s highly anticipated fixture against Chester FC, the club rising out of the ashes of former Football League outfit Chester City, was originally scheduled to take place on September 9, but had to be re-arranged due to Chester’s county cup commitments.

The fixture will now take place at Crilly Park on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, kick off 7.45pm, with ticketing details to be confirmed.

Leigh Genesis’ trip to Mossley, originally scheduled for Tuesday evening but postponed because of a frozen pitch at Seel Park, has been re-arranged.

The fixture will now take place at Seel Park on Tuesday December 21 with a 7.45pm kick off, six days before Radcliffe Borough are the festive visitors to Crilly Park on Monday December 27.

LEIGH Genesis have released 20-year-old winger Adam Strode, pictured above, as boss Mark Maddox looks to bolster his struggling Evo-Stik League First Division North squad.

Strode began his career with two years at League Two side Accrington Stanley, before spending last season in the North West Counties Premier Division with Alsager Town.

He joined Genesis in July after an impressive pre-season trial period, making his Leigh debut in the 2-1 home defeat to Curzon Ashton at Crilly Park on the opening day of the 2010/2011 Evo-Stik League Division One North season.

He made a total of 17 appearances, three of them from the substitute's bench, making his final appearance for the club in the 6-0 loss to Lancaster City a fortnight ago as a substitute for the injured Andy Heald.

Strode leaves with the club’s best wishes as he looks for a new club.
