A FIFTY-nine year old Parkinson's sufferer will compete in the Great Manchester Run to help fund research and hopefully find a cure for the degenerative neurological condition.

John Harrison, of Culcheth Hall Drive, Culcheth, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's last June, will be joined by 79 other runners who will take to the streets of Manchester on Sunday, May 15, in support of Parkinson’s UK.

The team will be among thousands of runners who will take part in the 10 kilometres event.

John said: “I’m hoping to raise as much as I can for Parkinson's UK so they can carry on their good work. The funds I raise will go towards helping to find a cure and improving the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s.”

The run starts in Manchester City Centre on Portland Street near the junction with Oxford Street. The finish line is on Deansgate.

Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “I would like to thank all of our dedicated Great Manchester Run runners for their exceptional support. Without their help our work would not be possible.”

John has set himself a fundraising target of £250. To sponsor him visit: http://www.justgiving.com/John-Harrison3 In the UK there are 120,000 people with Parkinson’s, a condition for which there is currently no cure. For some people having Parkinson’s can be a frustrating and isolating experience.
