LEIGH Centurions hooker John Duffy has signed a contract extension to keep him at the club for a third season.

With over 180 appearances for the club, achieved across three spells, Duffy helped Centurions lift the Northern Rail Cup for an unprecedented third time in Blackpool earlier this year and played in 26 of Leigh’s 31 games in the 2011 season.

The Scottish playmaker is following in the footsteps of teammates Tommy Goulden, Dean McGilvray, Steve Maden, Martyn Ridyard and Jimmy Taylor in signing for another year, despite the financial problems that the club is facing.

He said: “I’ve been chatting with Trevor and Keith over the last few weeks, I didn’t really want to leave the club. I had quite a few offers but I've got emotion built up with Leigh, the affiliation is still there and I wanted to do the club proud while it's probably going to be my last season and just finish off where I’ve spent most of my better years.

“The lads were gutted when they found out the club might go into admin, I know that quite a few players like myself went out of our way if we needed physio or surgery to not let it cost the club by going through different avenues. The local lads are very loyal and always will be to me and will do anything to help the club.”

“It will be a case of sticking with us, trusting what we do off the field and being one heartbeat together.”
