Mourners paid their respects as a funeral took place for a mother and daughter killed in attacks in Kilmarnock.

NHS worker Emma Robertson Coupland, 39, was found injured in the car park of University Hospital Crosshouse, near Kilmarnock, at around 7.45pm on February 4 but died at the scene.

Her daughter Nicole Anderson, 24, was stabbed in a second incident 20 minutes later on Portland Street, Kilmarnock. She was taken to hospital but later died.

A large number of mourners gathered at the ceremony held at Riccarton Cemetery in Kilmarnock.

Two hearses carried the coffins into the cemetery accompanied by a lone piper.

Friends and family hugged and shed tears as flower tributes spelling “sister” were placed at the graveside and the mother and daughter were laid to rest.

An online fundraiser arranged by the family of the victims raised more than than £26,000 towards costs of the funeral.

Steven Robertson, 40, reportedly the ex-partner of Ms Robertson Coupland, also died on the day of the attacks.

He was killed in a crash on the C50 – a minor road between the B7036 and the A76 on the outskirts of Kilmarnock – at around 8.30pm.
