Channel 4 has announced that it will be broadcasting an 'alternative' Christmas Day message this year, which is being led by Tom Daley.

The Olympic gold medal winning diver will address the nation at 5pm.

In a video posted on Channel 4's social media page the 27-year-old advertised the message.

He said: "While I'm not the Queen I've got some words I'd like to share on Christmas Day.

"See my alternative Christmas message 5pm, Channel 4 and All 4 on Christmas Day."

This is being presented as another option to the traditional speech the Queen gives on Christmas Day.

That is expected to be broadcast at its usual time of 3pm across multiple UK television channels on Christmas Day.

It has become a tradition in the UK, since being first televised by the BBC in 1957, although it is not broadcast live which has been the practice since 1960.

Where will the Queen's Christmas Speech be broadcast in 2021?

The Christmas speech will be broadcast on BBC One, ITV, Sky One, Sky News and can be listened to on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday at 3pm.

Additionally, it will be shown on the Royal Family YouTube channel as well as their Facebook page.
