These two creepy life-size Victorian dolls have been sending chills down spines in London this week.

The girls have been spotted at busy locations such as Charing Cross Tube station, Oxford Street and Hamleys.

So what’s it all about?

Well, it turns out the ‘dolls’ are part of an elaborate stunt to promote magician Derren Brown’s upcoming world-first “psychological theme park attraction” opening at Thorpe Park next year.

Leigh Journal:

The experience is “designed to manipulate the human mind” and these two girls, who are actually 10-year-old sisters dressed in period costume and eerie masks, have already set the tone if the reaction to them in the capital is anything to go on.

Confused and unnerved people have taken to Twitter to share their shock.

One tweeter posted: “Well, these things are creepy as hell….and in the wrong era!”

A passer-by at Oxford Circus said, ‘Creepy dolls spotted at Oxford Circus tube. And they move. My nightmares have become a reality.”

Leigh Journal:

After it was revealed the freaky Victorian twins reminiscent of The Grady sisters from horror film The Shining are part of the marketing for his unique theme park experience, Brown said: “The theme of Victoriana is ever present in my work and you will see glimpses of this in my new attraction.

“I believe we are moving toward a future where theme park attractions not only give you a physical experience but also play with your mind and the concept of what is real.

Leigh Journal:

“The Victorian twin dolls are just a taster of what my new attraction has in store for visitors to Thorpe Park next spring.

“I look forward to the public unwrapping the clues of what’s to come – all is very much, not what it seems.”

So now you know – although it’s unlikely to make the dolls any less creepy if you see them while they’re still roaming around London!
