Egremont Rangers 24 Leigh Miners Rangers 16

LEIGH Miners Rangers went down to a narrow defeat at Cumbrian outfit Egremont Rangers in what was a spirited showing during a hard-fought game in the NCL Kingstone Press Cider Premier Division at Gillfoot Park on Saturday.

Tries from Jonny Youds, who also added two goals, Jimmy Muir and Scott Travis meant the visitors were always in contention but ultimately edged out by Egremont, who kept their own top six hopes alive with the win.

For Miners, the league remains tightly packed with the Twist Lane side still in with a shout of a top four finish – but they will need to beat defending champions and newly-crowned cup winners West Hull on the final day of the league season on October 18 at Twist Lane.

The Alliance team lost by an almost identical scoreline, 24-14, to champions Wigan St Patricks in the North West Men’s League Division Two play-off final at Widnes.
