LEIGH'S bid for a top four Betfred Championship finish has suffered a double blow with the loss of full-back Peter Mata’utia and winger Matty Dawson Jones for a total of 10 games.
But it could have been worse for the Centurions duo after they were charged with Grade E offences, each carrying a maximum of eight match bans, following red cards in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup defeat to Leeds last Friday.
Mata’utia collected a four-match suspension for his dangerous first half throw on Rhinos hooker Matt Parcell.
He also received an extra game for a high tackle on Matty Russell in the controversial defeat to Toronto Wolfpack at Summer Bash, Blackpool.
Dawson Jones must serve a five-match suspension for abusive language towards referee Chris Kendall late in the 52-22 loss.
The pair will start their spell on the side-lines when Leigh host Halifax on Sunday. They will be next available for a trip to Rochdale Hornets on July 15.
