WESTLEIGH cricket team continued their promotion push on Saturday, defeating Elton Vale at home by 145 runs.

Toby Leeds led the way with the bat, scoring an impressive 83 while Rob Entwistle, Craig Ralph, Chami Vithanage and Andy Lloyd all contributed scores upwards of 30, amassing a final score of 306-8.

Four wickets from Louis Howard ensured Vale struggled to catch the Westleigh target, with the visitors being bowled out within 37 overs for a total of 161.

The second innings featured athletic catches from Leeds, Charlie Samarasekara and Tom Kay, securing the win to keep pressure on first-place Droylsden and set up Sunday's cup final against Swinton Moorside at Dukinfield.

Westleigh's seconds also secured victory on Saturday, winning by six wickets against Winton.

Victory aided the second team's challenge for promotion, with a score of 211-4 being achieved to overcome the Winton target of 208.

A collective bowling display saw Westleigh take eight wickets during the opening 45 overs, allowing a strong run chase in the second innings to lead them to victory.

Nick Sykes’ 54 not out from just 41 balls and a solid 49 from Danny Galvin saw the second-placed visitors home by six wickets.

The seconds also sit in second in the league table, only two points behind leaders Bamford Fieldhouse, and will be looking to continue their push on Saturday against third-place Walshaw.
