RUNCORN duathlete Kathryn Schofield enjoyed success representing Great Britain at the recent European Championships in Ibiza, writes Mike Critchley.

Kathryn, aged 17, had qualified for GB team in her age group which is under 20s in the duathlon.

This event involved a 5km run, 20k on the bike and then concluding with a 2.5k run.

Ahead of the race Kathryn targeted a place in the top 10 — and she succeeded, finishing in seventh.

As a result of that she has now qualified for World Championships in April in Pontvereda, Spain where she will compete in the duathlon sprint distance in age group under 20s.

She also wrapped up qualification for next June’s European Championships in Romania.

Kathryn trains regularly at Runcorn Cycle Club, Runcorn Reps Swimming Club and Warrington Tri Club - and is grateful for the coaches at each of those organisations.

Her longer term ambition is qualifying for a triathlon next for the year 2020.

She combines her sport with her studies at Cronton College where she is taking an animal management Btec course with a view to go to Chester University to study animal behaviour and welfare.

Kathryn has been assisted in her success by the backing of leasecar.uk who sponsored her GB kit.

She is also grateful to Runcorn Cycle Shop, who make sure her bike is in full working order.

Kathryn has a busy schedule ahead of her in duathlon and triathlon.
