JACK Hughes says he will look to further himself as a leader at Warrington Wolves after committing his future to the club.

The England Knights captain has signed a new three-year deal with The Wire to keep him at the club until at least the end of 2022.

Hughes has become a model of consistency over his three years at The Halliwell Jones Stadium and only missed one game during 2018.

He has been touted by many as a potential future captain of the club, but the 26-year-old says he is just happy to have his long-term future sorted for now.

“To extend my stay at the club was an easy decision for me as I’m really happy to be spending more years within this squad,” he said.

“Everything is going well at the club on and off the field. Since Karl (Fitzpatrick) took over and Steve (Price) came in as head coach things have got exciting and I’m glad to be here.

“Leadership is something that has come into my game more over recent seasons and to be England Knights captain was a really good experience as I look to progress myself as a leader over time.”

Since joining the club, Hughes has been part of two losing Grand Final efforts and just as many Challenge Cup Final defeats.

However, he believes the 2019 squad is well-placed to finally bring Old Trafford glory to Warrington.

“At the moment morale is high in the squad,” he said.

“Pricey always talks about bringing good people into the club and you can clearly see he’s done that this year with his recruitment.

“Everyone is working hard towards and striving for winning the Grand Final as the ultimate aim again this year. To be part of that would be something special.

“The squad is looking exciting and strong. The sooner the season comes round the better.”
