LEIGH Centurions return to Betfred Championship action on Sunday with a home game against Barrow Raiders but with a Super League test coming up in the Coral Challenge Cup.

However, thoughts of an away trip to Hull KR next weekend will be shelved until Centurions complete their search for a fifth league win of 2019.

Despite losing their last Championship outing at Bradford, Centurions sit fifth on the ladder but are one of four clubs currently on eight points.

Barrow are 10th after one win, one draw and six defeats from their opening eight games.

And while Leigh secured a fifth round shot at Tim Sheens’ Hull Kingston Rovers with a 34-12 win at Sheffield Eagles, Barrow lost 32-16 to York City Knights at Craven Park.

Leigh’s six-try success was achieved without contributions from any dual registration St Helens stars.

Not all of them will come back into contention for the visit of the Cumbrians.

Experienced Luke Douglas and scrum half Danny Richardson did not feature in Saints’ 36-24 Super League win over Hull KR last Friday but late injuries and withdrawals meant Aaron Smith and James Bentley started.

However, Theo Fages’ hip injury - which will sideline him for two weeks - means that Richardson will be needed by Saints with his performances in recent weeks earning him that recall.

Leigh will look for a convincing performance against Barrow to take into the game on Humberside; date still to be confirmed at time of going to press.

“Obviously we would have loved a home tie but this is a good test for us and will toughen us up ahead of the Easter programme,” said head coach Duffy on the draw.

“Hopefully, we can agree a Friday evening kick-off to prepare both sides for their respective Good Friday games the following week.

“Iain Thornley and Joe Cator are two players in my side who will be looking forward to facing their former club.”

The tie could also see ex Leigh half back Josh Drinkwater line-up against his former club though Ben Crooks is doubtful as he recovers from a broken vertebra in his back.

Leigh famously clinched promotion to Super League with victory at Rovers in the 2016 Qualifiers.

“But we are a different club altogether from that game,” added Duffy.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for our new playing group to have the opportunity to play against a Super League club.

“The lads will thrive playing against Super League opposition and it’s a reward for our hard-earned win at Sheffield.”

The full draw is: Hull KR v Leigh Centurions, Widnes v York City Knights, Thatto Heath v Dewsbury Rams, Leeds Rhinos v Workington Town, Halifax v London Broncos, Bradford Bulls v Featherstone Rovers, Salford Red Devils v Rochdale Hornets, Doncaster v Batley.

Only the Super League teams who finished in the bottom four of last season’s competition were involved at this stage of the draw.
