LIAM Forsyth has signed a new deal with Leigh Centurions.

The 23-year-old winger or centre joined from Wigan Warriors in June this year, finishing with an impressive return of ten tries in as many games as the club finished fourth in the Betfred Championship.

Forsyth, who holds #HN1489, said he was delighted to be staying with the Centurions. He said: "Everyone is keen to pick up the pieces of last season because we were all so disappointed with how things finished.

"We have a good bunch at the club and there's a real desire to be better next season. The Championship seems to get better every season and it's up to us to rise to that challenge and push for promotion.

"During the middle part of the season we showed the kind of rugby we can play but we couldn't keep that momentum. But we all have to chance to rectify that and the challenge is for me and the team to get better."

Leigh head coach John Duffy said: "Liam came to us midway through the season and I'd coached him before at Swinton.

"He scored some very good tries for us last season.

"He's just a natural try-scorer - he got some tries last season where I don't even know how he got the ball down. He's come through a good system at Wigan and I have no problems at all with him – he just gets on with it.

"Liam just wants to progress and work hard. He really took to the way that we played and slotted straight in, never taking a backwards step."

Forsyth was born in St Helens and played for both Bold Miners and Thatto Heath at junior level before joining Wigan Academy. After a short spell in rugby union with Bath, he returned to Wigan, making his senior debut against Warrington in March 2017.

In recent years he has spent time on dual registration at Swinton, initially when Duffy was head coach and has scored 25 tries in 48 career games.
