WARRINGTON Rylands 1906's reward for their thrilling FA Cup run is a plum home tie in the Second Qualifying Round.
Dave McNabb's side, who overcame higher level Whitby Town on Tuesday night, will host one-time FA Cup semi-finalists York City at their Gorsey Lane ground on Saturday, October 3, kick-off 3pm.
The long-time Football League Minstermen currently play in the National League North, the sixth tier of league football and three levels above Warrington Rylands.
York City, who reached the semi-finals against Newcastle United in 1954-55, are managed by Steve Watson, a former right-back or midfielder who played in the Premier League and Football League for Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday.
A winner will be decided on the day, a penalty shootout settling matters if the contest is a draw after 90 minutes.
80 ties make up the Second Qualifying Round with an additional 43 clubs having joined the competition at this stage.
Winning clubs at this stage of the competition pick up £3,375 from the prize fund, with losing clubs also collecting £1,125.
York will find their opponents to be resilient and relishing the opportunity to test themselves.
There were setbacks aplenty to overcome, including missing a penalty and conceding an injury-time equaliser in their midweek their clash with Whitby Town – a team ranked two divisions higher than them – but they still prevailed.
McNabb’s men held their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out 4-3 to add another chapter to their amazing cup journey.
Clitheroe and 1874 Northwich had already been dispatched at their expense as they continue to fly the flag for Warrington in the prestigious knockout.
