BOGEY team City of Liverpool FC visited the Skuna and in a grandstand finish plundered what for 85 minutes or so looked an unlikely victory. The Purps had been the black n white stripes last competitive opponents in a FA Trophy game last November.

They made a mockery of crazy bookmakers odds and aided by a couple of worldies deservedly triumphed 3-0.

Brad Cooke’s side had the better of the opening stanza.

An early Jack Lenehan effort rebounded to safety off the post and good defending thwarted both Ben Conway and Elliot Rokka. Lenehan also fired straight at the keeper before Marcus Cusani and Conway linked up on the stroke of half time to make to please the home faithful. The former threaded a beautiful ball to the latter who lobbed the ex Colls Mon Theo Roberts.

Colls continued to dominate proceedings after the half time breather and when the impressive Conway added his second with twenty minutes remaining the first victory of pre season looked almost assured.

He took a through ball in his stride, waltzed past the keeper and tapped home.

Football is a funny game’

On 83 minutes the Purps got a rather soft penalty which Jack Hazelhurst dispatched with aplomb. Game on. Five minutes later they were given another spot-kick. No complaints, a stonewaller. A Trialist levelled matters. Moments later the visitors had completed a remarkable comeback with a remarkable goal. From just inside enemy territory the ubiquitous Trialist scored an absolute worldie to steal an unlikely win. A goal for all seasons.

Until the dying embers of the contest the Colls performance was bob on. In all honesty they should have scored more goals and been over the horizon. However you cannot fault the comeback of our nemesis City of Liverpool FC. They took the blows and landed the killer one.

On Saturday Colls go to old rivals Glossop North End. KO 3pm.
