GOALS from Liam Hughes and Hamza Bencherif saw Worksop Town make sure of their place in the play-offs with a 2-0 win at Atherton Colls.
Heading into the final round of fixtures, Worksop went into their trip to the Skuna Stadium knowing only a win would keep their post-season fate in their own hands.
And the nerves of the Tigers’ travelling support were eased significantly just four minutes in, as a loose ball eventually fell to Hughes to slam home the opener.
A difficult start for the Colls would swiftly get worse, as defender Teddy Mfuni and top-scorer Enock Lusiama were both withdrawn in the first-half through injury.
A fine Hughes header then looked to have doubled the away side’s advantage, only for the goal to be called back for offside.
The second-half was a more even affair, but the best of the chances were still had by the visitors, with Regan Hutchinson embarking on an impressive slaloming run forward from full-back, only to drag his effort wide of the post.
But it would be Bencherif who would eventually notch the second goal, rising unopposed to guide home a corner with a powerful headed effort.
Colls have now completed their campaign and it’s now full steam ahead planning for the NPL West Division in 24/25.
