LEIGH Leopards put their five-game winning run on the line when they face Wigan Warriors at Leigh Sports Village on Friday in this season’s second Battle of the Borough.

Leigh cemented fifth spot in the Super League table with last Saturday’s 28-12 success over Warrington.

Third placed Wigan’s ninth successive victory in all competitions was a 38-16 stroll over St Helens.

This season’s previous meeting resulted in the worst performances of head coach Adrian Lam’s reign.

Wigan plundered nine tries as Leopards were brushed aside 54-0.

However, in last season’s corresponding home game, Leigh ran out 18-8 victors.

“It’s been a ding-dong battle with them since our promotion back to Super League,” said Lam.

“They are on a strong roll and got a lot of confidence out of the last couple of weeks with young players coming in and stepping up.

“It will be a tough challenge but one we are looking forward to.

“They have had injuries to key players and ups and down. But they have found confidence too and are finishing the season strong as usual.”

More than 9,000 fans watched Leigh’s second win of the month over Warrington resulting in Davie Armstrong and Umyla Hanley being included in the Super League team of the week.

And more will pack the stadium for Wigan’s visit with Lam urging supporters to roar them home to victory.

“They (the fans) have been awesome for us all year and it won’t be any different this week.

“There are only seven games to go and all our fans need to get to these, especially the big ones.”

Former Warriors favourite Josh Charnley, who has scored 22 Super League tries in 2026, needs one more to move ahead of Mick Sullivan into stand-alone 20th place in the list of all-time scorers in the British game with 243.

If selected, Joe Ofahengaue will celebrate his 250th career appearance.

*Leopards’ wheelchair team defeated Hull KR 52-26 at Lowton High School to claim a fourth successive win.

They will try for five in a row against Widnes Vikings at 1pm on Saturday at the same venue.

Leopards’ Academy are away to Hull KR with a 1pm kick-off.

*Leigh’s current head of medical, Dr Nicola Fallon, has been appointed as the Rugby Football League’s Chief Medical Officer.

The 43-year-old will leave the Leopards on September 1 to succeed Dr Dane Vishnubala.

Fallon is currently Clinical Director of the Emergency Department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals as well as its Associate Divisional Medical Director and Consultant in Emergency Medicine.
