TEN-YEAR-OLD Keely Hodgkinson made her family proud when she competed in the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships at Crystal Palace.
She was among 70 finalists for the year 5 girls competition, comprising of a 500m run on the outdoor track and 50m swim in the Olympic-sized pool.
Keely, of St Philips School, Atherton, went into the championships ranked 15th and so a top 20 place was the target.
She performed brilliantly to come home second in her 500m run with a personal best 1min 34.28secs, narrowly missing out on a medal for the best run.
Keely, who runs for Leigh Harriers and swims with Howe Bridge Aces, also achieved a new best of 37.02secs in her 50m swim for an overall finishing place of eighth.
