LEIGH interim coach Kurt Haggerty felt his side were never at the races at last night's stormy game against Wigan at the DW Stadium.

The game saw Jack Ashworth sent off for his part in a brawl, which also saw Wigan's Brad Singleton dismissed.

The Centurions trailed 18-6 at one stage, after Liam Hood had levelled following Thomas Leuluai's early opener for Wigan, but they conceded two tries in the final two minutes of the first half and went in 28-6 down.

Sam Halsall, Joe Shorrocks and Jackson Hastings grabbed second-half tries for the Warriors before Hanley completed his hat-trick late on as Leigh remain winless after 14 Super League matches this season.

Haggerty said: "I don't think we weren't even in it up to half-time.

"I usually speak diplomatically, but we were way off defensively and way off with the ball.

"We had no resilience to defend, and we got punished by a good team."

Ashworth - on his second Leigh debut - and Singleton were dismissed for punching after 15 minutes and although Haggerty has only seen the incident once since, he admitted you cannot throw punches in the modern game.

He added: "It happened so quickly.

"I have only seen it back once, so I haven't seen it enough times to see the situation.

"But the way the game is now, if you throw punches you have a good chance of going to the bin or getting sent off."
