EX-Leigh forward Ben Flower, who recently announced his retirement from rugby league, has returned to rugby union in his native South Wales.

Flower, who represented Centurions just five times after joining from Wigan-where he was a twice Grand Final winner-has signed for WRU National Championship side, Pontypool.

“I want to enjoy the remainder of my playing career because when you’re having fun, you play your best rugby,” said the experienced prop.

Centre Junior Sa’u has tweeted a farewell to Leythers as the break-up of Centurions’ 2021 squad continues after James Bell’s move to St Helens.

The former Salford star, who scored three tries in 16 appearances, wrote: “2021 what a season full of ups and downs, physically and mentally you name it but grateful for the lessons along the way. Exciting times ahead for myself and my family. Signing OUT!

Five players who ended the 2021 campaign as Leigh players have been named in Scotland’s provisional 33-man squad for next month’s international against Jamaica at Featherstone on October 24.

Ben Hellewell, Ryan Brierley, Liam Hood, James Bell and Matty Russell get the call from Bravehearts’ coach Nathan Graham.

*Kevin Flanagan, a one-time Leigh loanee, has died, aged 74, after a 15-month battle with cancer. Flanagan, uncle of ex St Helens, Wigan and Salford star, Mark Flanagan, played four times for Leigh in December 1973.
