LEIGH coach Adrian Lam insists his side will not get carried away after they upset Betfred Super League leaders Warrington 30-12.

The Leopards raced into a 14-0 lead at Leigh Sports Village thanks to tries from Gareth O'Brien and Tom Briscoe and held the Wolves pointless in the second half as they recorded a sixth straight win.

Lam said: "I am very proud. It was a tough game - Warrington are a quality side that has set the standards this season.

"We knew it was going to be physical and we just had to be up for the challenge.

"I thought we were reasonably good for most of the game but it wasn't perfect.

Leigh Journal:

"The way we defended our line showed how we just kept turning up for each other. I thought our defence was really solid.

"I don't think one player stood out for us - that has been one of the secrets for us all season. It's great to get six wins in a row but things can change quickly if you get too far ahead of ourselves.

"It's a great feeling to beat the team that's top of the table."

George Williams looked to have kick started the Wolves fightback with a 28th-minute try but O'Brien responded with his second try for the hosts.

Warrington struck again on the stroke of half-time through Joe Philbin and Stefan Ratchford's conversion made it 20-12 at the break.

The Wolves came out firing at the start of the second half and threw everything at Leigh but they just could not breach their defence.

Leigh sealed victory with Josh Charnley's 15th try of the season as the game entered the final quarter and, with time almost up, Ben Reynolds scooped up a loose ball and raced 60 metres to score a try he also converted.

Wolves coach Daryl Powell said: "It was a static start from us. Although we got a couple of tries we were lucky to go in with that scoreline of 20-12 at half-time.

"I thought we were dominated from start to finish - it was a really disappointing effort from us. Credit to Leigh, they were really good and played at the top of their game but we made too many errors and gave too many penalties away.

"That defeat has probably been coming for a few weeks. We have been winning games but have not been great so we need to rediscover the way we played at the start of the season and get back to those levels.

"We had a lot of fans with us tonight and we didn't give our fans enough to get behind."
