EVERYONE'S looking for ways to cool off during the heatwave - and Hillingdon Council has posted some tips on its website to help you.

For instance, if you can't take a shower or bath to reduce your temperature, splash yourself several times a day with cold water. Focus on your face and the back of your neck, using a spray bottle of water if you are feeling particularly hot.

The borough is asking people to keep an extra watchful eye on older people and young children during the current heatwave.

Older people are more at risk from high temperatures and Hillingdon suggests checking on older neighbours or relatives as often as possible, reminding them to drink plenty and often.

They should stay inside in the coolest room, keep curtains closed and windows and doors open, wherever possible.

Babies and young children are particularly sensitive to the effects of high temperature and can get stressed and irritable.

It is important to ensure they are kept in shade and given regular drinks throughout the day to prevent dehydration. Sugary or fizzy drinks should be avoided.
