RAMBLING WITH THE CREWE AND NANTWICH RAMBLING CLUB

On Sunday May 12th the Crew and Nantwich Rambling Club enjoyed a pleasant walk around Ramsbottom near Bury Ramsbottom is situated on the course of the River Irwell in the West Pennine Moors. The name Ramsbottom is believed to derive from the Old English words ramm and botm, meaning "valley of the ram". A thriving market town in spectacular surroundings the local skyline of Ramsbottom is dominated by the Peel Monument which stands on Holcombe Moor, a memorial to Sir Robert Peel, the 19th-century British Prime Minister and creator of the modern British police force. This tower was the target for the rambling group.
