Eltham Community Hospital was officially opened by MP Clive Efford last week after a decade-long campaign from residents and community groups.

The hospital, built on the site of the olf Eltham & Mottingham Cottage Hospital, brings together a wide range of health and social services in a single location just off Eltham High Street.

Local residents expressed strong support for the new hospital and worked with NHS commissioners and providers, the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Eltham’s MP to get the project off the ground.

Group Dr Ellen Wright, Clinical Chair of NHS Greenwich Clinical Commissioning, said: "Eltham Community Hospital was built by hard graft, sheer determination, and boundless community support, and the result has definitely been worth it.

"With two GP practices, outpatient clinics, physiotherapy, mental health services, ultrasound and blood tests all under one roof, Eltham Community Hospital is truly a beacon for NHS primary care in the modern age."

Judy Smith MBE, of South Greenwich Forum, added: "Eltham has changed much over the years, and one of the best changes is the new hospital.

"We not only have better healthcare closer to home, but as a community we have helped ensure the hospital meets our local needs."
