AFTER four blank weeks and currently not having a home ground available, Bamford Arms finally got their BSF Over-35s Division One season under way.

And two goals from Daz Smith made it a winning start in the game which was played at Manor Vets’ ground.

Barr Hill Vets recorded their second win – 5-0 at home to Bar Lane Bowling Club – to take second spot on goal difference. Barry Massey and Paul Fisher scored two each and Brian Love one.

Queen Lizzy beat North Walkden 6-1 to leave themselves in third, although they have played two more games than Barr Hill.

Clint McLaughlin and Dean Banks both scored two for Queen Lizzy, as did former professional Lee Whittley who missed out on a hat-trick when his penalty struck the crossbar.

Radcliffe Old Boys A stay top of Division Two despite having the game at Turton postponed.

Radcliffe Vets moved into second place above Turton on goal difference, but have played an extra match.

Goals by Tom Dawson and Mark Ayres were cancelled out by two strikes from visitors Heaton Vets who are the only team to have played five games in the first five weeks of the season.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club picked up their first points of the campaign as goals by Wes Gallagher and Matty Fitzsimmons gave them a 2-1 home win against Tavern Vets.

The points lifted BLGC off the bottom of the table and above their opponents.

Division Three leaders Home Guard Failsworth should have had a free week, but played their week 13 match against Vulcan Walkden.

Rob Black scored twice with Paul Tasker and Paul Lewis adding one apiece in a 4-2 win while Vulcan responded with a 30-yard screamer from Mark Whittley and an Ian Tinsdal effort.

Morning Star crashed to an 8-2 home defeat at the hands of Radcliffe Town and are bottom of the table without a point.

Wigan Town are also pointless following their 6-2 loss at Dobbies B for whom Mark Longshaw scored a hat-trick, while David Cosgrove, Chris Pedlar and Carl Swift scored one each.

Radcliffe Old Boys B joined Heaton Casuals and Bolton Wyresdale on nine points at the top of Division Four following a 4-1 win against Bury Seniors who have lost four games out of four so far this season.

Andy Hall struck twice for Radcliffe while Paul Bentley and Nathan Comeley each scored one.

Michael Jefferson scored four goals and Gareth Harrison three to give Ainsworth B a 7-3 victory over Deans Youth and Ladies, but Deans can take heart from the fact they scored three, two by Mark Brady and the other by Mark Oldham.

Atherton Town moved off the bottom of the table with their first win in their second match of the season.

Rob Lowe scored for home side PF Bury, and Mark Bretherton, Neil Thompson and Mark Shannon netted to earn Atherton the points.
