A HILLINGDON housewife and Hugo, a four-year-old Otterhound, proved every dog does have its day after walking away with a top prize at dfs Crufts.

Hugo was among 21,500 healthy, happy dogs at Crufts, presented by the Kennel Club, and claimed the prestigious best of breed award at Birmingham ’s NEC last weekend.

Owner Rae Ganna showed nerves of steel along with Hugo, beating off competition from 38 other entries to scoop the coveted prize, before going on to compete for best in group.

Mrs Ganna, of Charville Lane, was left beaming with pride at her and Hugo’s performances on the 120th anniversary of the world-famous Crufts in the West Midlands.

“I have come here twice with Hugo and we won best of breed the year before last before missing out last year so it feels great to be back on top,” said Mrs Ganna.

“Hugo has been well-behaved all day and taken everything in his stride which is an achievement in itself when you consider everything that goes on at Crufts.

“We’ve taken him to shows as far away as Ireland and he always does well, he’s a very good boy who just loves to perform.”
