POLICE have released images of two people wanted in connection with a spate of distraction burgalries in south Manchester.

The pair are thought to be responsible for incidents across Trafford and Manchester, including one in the Brooklands area of Sale, as well as Stretford, Flixton, Wythenshawe, Chorlton, and Withington.

Between 6pm and 6.25pm on Monday, September 12, a man and woman invited themselves into the home of an 88-year-old woman on Swalecliffe Avenue, Brooklands.

The man searched through her handbag but was disturbed by the victim and both left empty handed.

The man is described as being white, aged between 20 and 40, 5ft 4in to 5ft 8in tall and had dark hair. He spoke with a local accent.

Victims describe the woman as being white, in her 20s or 30s, taller than the man, of skinny build, with dyed blonde hair. Both are smart in appearance and have been seen driving a dark coloured hatchback car.

Detective Inspector Lee Price from South Manchester CID said: “These two people are clearly preying on the elderly and vulnerable members of the community to steal personal belongings and money. Each time they have claimed they have known the victims and conned their way inside.

“We believe these incidents are linked and I would urge anyone who has fallen victim to these people or may have seen them acting suspiciously to contact us as soon as possible.

“Anyone who recognises the two people on the CCTV should phone us as they may strike again and carry out another despicable crime.

“I would urge residents not to allow anyone into your home unless they have valid identification and can prove who they are.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 6098 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
