AN inquest has been opened into the death of a young woman who was struck by a train and killed at a level crossing in Glazebury.
Hendl Wagschal entered the tracks between Newton-le-Willows and Patricroft early in the morning on Thursday, October 22.
British Transport Police (BTP) and paramedics were called at 7.45am, but on arrival, the 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have confirmed her death is not being treated as suspicious.
An inquest was opened by area coroner, Victoria Davies, at Cheshire Coroners’ Court in Warrington on Wednesday, November 4.
She said: “I am satisfied there was an unnatural element to Ms Wagschal’s death, therefore it is appropriate to open an inquest.”
The inquest will take place on Thursday, June 3, next year, subject to an evidence review on Wednesday, January 27.
Ms Wagschal lived in Queen Street, Ashton-under-Lyne.
The day after the incident, a spokesman for BTP said: “We were called to an area of the line between Newton-le-Willows and Patricroft railway stations shortly before 7.45am on Thursday, October 22.
“This followed reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended along with paramedics but, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
