GRIFFIN JOHN BRIAN (JB) Died 17th November 2015 aged 84. Beloved husband of Mary, nee Jones, for 59 years. Loving father of Christine, John, Paula, Helen and Anne. Devoted father-in-law, grandad, great grandad, uncle, cousin and friend to many, and brother to his dear sister Winifred. JB was Head Boy of Leigh Grammar School 1948/49. After National Service in the Royal Navy he joined the Civil Service, and on retirement was Controller, NW Region DHSS. Griffin House, Bryn is his legacy. JB’s numerous church activities included: CYMS; SVP Society; Lourdes pilgrimages by ACROSS Jumbulance; Parish finance organiser. He appeared in many productions with St Joseph’s Players after joining in 1948. His last major role was as Danny, the band conductor, when the society first produced “Brassed Off” in September 2007. JB was a keen rugby league fan since 1945. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Joseph’s on Friday 4th December at 12.00 followed by a reception in St Joseph’s main hall for all family and friends. The private Committal Service at the Crematorium is for immediate family only please, and JB’s ashes will be interred at a later date in the family grave in Tyldesley Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations to the funeral director or to family members will be distributed among appropriate charities.
