Stars of the small screen scrubbed up for their blue carpet appearances at last night’s Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

The US ceremony recognises the best talent from TV shows and welcomed some familiar faces as the evening got under way.

One of those was James Corden, who revealed he would love a cameo on political comedy Veep as he arrived for the awards.

The British star, who was nominated for best talk show for his American late night programme The Late Late Show, arrived for the ceremony in Beverly Hills dressed in a navy suit with a lavender tie.

He told A&E: “We are thrilled; it’s a lovely thing to be nominated. The whole thing has been a wonderful experience so far. We never thought we would hit the ground running so fast.”

Asked which show he would love to appear on if he was given the chance, he said: “Veep, I’m a huge fan. I think they are the best cast on television right now but we have to make a show every day.”

Other stars of the small screen were a vision in monochrome as they arrived for the awards ceremony.

Actresses including Empire star Taraji P Henson, America’s Got Talent judge Mel B and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D star Jamie Alexander all opted for black and white outfits for the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

Taraji, who is the breakout star of the new E4 drama about a hip hop dynasty, opted for a black dress with cut-out panels on the shoulder and waist and silver ball embellishments.

Former Spice Girl Mel B looked smart in a white tailored jumpsuit with black details and a white blazer, while Jamie opted for a black and white billowing strapless, knee-length dress.
