The 1975 have left fans bemused and bewildered after they suddenly vanished from social media.

The indie rock group – frontman Matthew Healy, guitarist Adam Hann, drummer George Daniel and bassist Ross MacDonald – have sparked speculation of a split after they deleted their individual Twitter accounts.

They left only a cryptic cartoon-strip message on Instagram, which hints at a new direction for the band.

“As much as we would like things to stay the same, change is an inevitable part of life,” some of the text said.

“We can’t simply go on forever, always staying the same, never evolving. So we must leave, with a parting, ‘We love you’, we are already gone.”

The group have been tweeting the date June 1, 2015 for several months, leading fans to believe that a big announcement will take place on the day, but they have also posted images of texts about “the end”.

The 1975, who met at high school, have released four EPs over the past two years, before their self-titled and chart-topping debut album was released in September 2013.

Their manager Jamie Oborne has teased their disappearing act from social media could be just that – an act.

Fans of the band are confused over their sudden disappearance.
