FOR many football fans meeting their favourite player is a goal in life.

But for Milly Thompson, a pupil at Leigh C of E Junior School, it was a dream come true when she walked out onto the pitch at Old Trafford with Wayne Rooney.

“He smiled at me and asked if ‘I was okay’,” said Milly, nine. “I was nervous because I was going to be on TV, but I was also excited.”

Milly won an online competition for the honour of being a Manchester United mascot in their UEFA Champions League match on December 5.

When she waited in the tunnel she didn’t know which player would accompany her onto the hallowed turf so when Rooney lined up next to her it completed the perfect day.

“He was already my favourite player and I’m going to try and watch football more now,” she said.
