A woman has been arrested after a man suffered a serious head injury last week in Tyldesley.

Andrew Ainsworth, 45, was admitted to the Bolton Royal Infirmary shortly after 2pm on March 5 March 2013 by an ambulance crew.

Paramedics had previously been called to Kings Court off Market Street in Tyldesley, near to the back of the Edge pub and Bella Pizza shop on Castle Street, to treat Andrew after he had been found with a serious head injury.

He was admitted and found with a cut to his scalp and a bleed on the brain. He remains in hospital for treatment but is making a good recovery.

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington said: "We have made an arrest and we have been very encouraged by the public response to our appeal.

"However, the investigation remains ongoing and I would continue to appeal to anyone who has information about how Andrew sustained his injuries to call us."

Anyone with information should call police in Wigan on 0161 856 7295.
