LEIGH MP Andy Burnham has made a public appeal to businesses across the Leigh area to help make the inaugural Leigh Games as big a success as possible.

With less than one month to go, excitement is building in schools across the area.

Already generous donations to support the Leigh Games have been received from Golborne-based plastics company Alpla UK Ltd and supermarket Morrisons.

Support has also been received from Unit Pallets manufacturers, director of Redwaters home builders Sean McCaul and Leigh Masons.

Now Mr Burnham is appealing for more firms to get involved and offer support so that the two-day event will be open to more children and be even bigger and better – something the children will truly remember for the rest of their lives.

He said: “This is going to be a hugely exciting two days and a rare opportunity to put our young people in the spotlight and celebrate their talents. Everyone can get involved and, the more people that do, the bigger and better the Leigh Games will be.

“I am grateful to the businesses who have already come on board but make a direct appeal to others for help. The more support we receive, the more young people will be able to take part in what could be a life-changing event.

“My hope is that the Leigh Games will become a permanent fixture in the Leigh calendar.

“Our area is rich in sporting talent and we have some of the best sporting facilities in the land. We’ve got all the raw ingredients – now let’s make the most of them.”

If you feel that your organisation would be in a position to make a donation towards the event, no matter how small, get in contact with Andy Burnham’s office on 01942 682353.

Sponsors will feature in the Journal’s coverage in the week leading up to the event.
