STUDENTS taking part in a new training scheme designed to help jobseekers find work in retail have completed their course.

The ‘Step into Retail’ programme delivered by Wigan & Leigh College in partnership with Wigan Council provides a practical package of training to build skills and knowledge as well as helping boost confidence.

The partnership has launched a Retail Skills Shop, which aims to improve productivity for local retail businesses and their staff through providing a range of high quality training and development programmes.

Gareth Sutton, Wigan & Leigh College Developments Director, said: “This course is designed to both benefit jobseekers and local businesses by offering high quality, structured training, specifically tailored to the retail sector.

“We’ve had great feedback from the learners so far, and we hope that the knowledge they take away will enable them to secure jobs in the near future.”

One of the students on the course, Karen Hilton, said: “I have really enjoyed the two week course. It has given me a real insight into retail and given me more confidence to apply for jobs.”
