RESIDENTS had the chance to raise their concerns about high speed rail (HS2) and the proposed station at Lowton at a public meeting.

Dozens turned out at the event at Leigh Sports Village on Monday night to debate the benefits and pitfalls of the Transport for Leigh proposal.

Ged Tyrrell, from TfL, said: “We are still dealing with a few concerns from people, mainly related to house prices, but the good news is that Transport for Greater Manchester has started the survey that will be the basis for our proposal to the HS2 consultation which closes in January.

“Leigh is in the middle of everything; we are on the edge of Greater Manchester and Merseyside and it is the ideal place to be feeder into both counties.”

Residents can drop in to a national roadshow to speak to representatives from HS2 Ltd at Leigh Sports Village on Friday, between 12pm and 8pm.
