Atherton recruit sets sail for Royal Navy career

Leigh Journal: Daniel Lee Daniel Lee

A ROYAL Navy recruit is on course for a life at sea after passing the first stage of his training.

Trainee Seamanship Specialist Daniel Lee, aged 22, has undergone 10 weeks of intensive training since he moved from Atherton to HMS Raleigh in Cornwall in September.

The course is designed to teach recruits the basic skills required by all sailors and culminates with a passing-out parade.

Daniel said: “I chose to join the Royal Navy to see the world.

“I’m sure it will be an excellent career and I will take pride in serving my country.

“The training was challenging but by working as a team I got through it and to pass feels like the greatest achievement of my life so far.”

He will now undergo training to develop the skills to re-supply, anchor and berth Royal Navy ships, learn how to operate the close communications systems and short-range weapons.
