Leigh dad flown back to the UK after Tenerife tragedy
6:20pm Wednesday 26th February 2014 in News
A DAD stranded in Tenerife after an accident left him dependent on a life-support machine is finally back in the UK.
Family and friends launched a desperate appeal two weeks ago to raise the £30,000 needed to pay for an air ambulance to get 31-year-old Andy Openshaw home.
He had been on a stag weekend on the Spanish island when tragedy struck and Andy was left with a fractured skull.
The Get Andy Home Appeal has now reached its target and the refrigerator technician was flown home on Thursday to The Walton Centre in Liverpool.
Andy, below, is in a coma in intensive care but his family hope he will pull through. All fundraising events will go ahead as planned, with proceeds to charities to be confirmed by the Openshaw family.
Andy's insurance covered him for the medical treatment he received when in hospital on the island but would not stretch to getting him home to his wife and two young children.
