ANDY Nelson is back at Leigh RMI just four months after quitting as manager.

Nelson took charge at the start of last season along with current boss Stuart Humphreys, but stepped down after just two games of the current season with health problems.

Nelson has now recovered and Humphreys had no hesitation in inviting his friend back to the club to support him.

"Andy is my latest signing and I am delighted to welcome him back," said Humphreys.

"I have missed him as we have been together for a number of years."

Humphreys was quick to stress that Nelson's return would not affect Andy Roscoe's position as assistant manager.

He said: "Roscoe is top drawer. I get on well with him and things are not going to change. He has done a superb job and Andy Nelson's return will not undermine his position. He is returning to support me. What people don't realise is that we were joint managers before, but he was the front man."

Humphreys' transformation of RMI has been rewarded by him being named the Conference North manager of the month for December.

He was given the award after his side clocked up four consecutive league wins plus the scalp of Harrogate Town in the FA Trophy.

Humphreys, the first Leigh manager to pick up the award, was quick to spread the credit around the club.

He said: "I have never won anything like this before and it is the first time the club have got it, but it is down to everybody else at Leigh. The manager is only as good as the team he puts out.

"We have had a good run of games, but there were pointers before that when we played well but did not get the results."
