VOLUNTEERS and supporters of a food bank have helped raise money and supplies for it.

More than £800 and 4.1 tonnes of food was collected for Atherton and Leigh Foodbank as part of Tesco’s national neighbourhood weekend.

Donations of food, money and time were made by staff at Tesco stores in Atherton and Leigh.

This total collected represents one month’s worth of food that will be given out to local people who find themselves in food crisis situations.

The foodbank has organised another supermarket collection day at Asda Leigh on Saturday. To find out more, email or call 07976 266960.
