A READING group for the visually impaired is being set up thanks to funding from a Leigh-based housing provider.
Adactus Housing Association awarded Wigan and Leigh Culture Trust (WLCT) £800 from its neighbourhood fund to set up a visual impairment reading group at Wigan Library.
WLCT identified the need for the reading group following consultation with library users.
Library assistant Maria O’Neil said: “We would like to thank Adactus for the grant.
“The Culture Trust is committed to providing a variety of services that are inclusive for all our members and ensure everyone can enjoy the benefits of a good book.”
The money has quickly been put to good use with the purchase of a variety of talking books and a CD player.
Lindsay Greenhalgh, Adactus’ neighbourhood development officer, said: “A visual impairment reading group already operates from Leigh Library on a monthly basis and we are very pleased to be able to support WLCT with establishing the same service at Wigan Library.”
The montly reading group will be free of charge and is scheduled to start in September.
