WHEN Cat Dascendis was invited to a fell running weekend in Cumbria, it didn't seem quite enough of a challenge for the ultra-marathon runner.

So to make it that little bit harder, she plans to run 93 miles non-stop from her Bickershaw home to get there before joining a group of friends for a weekend of, well, running.

The 32-year-old, who took up running only a few years ago, will set out on November 13 for her longest run to date to raise money for the mental health charity Mind.

"I started running at the end of 2012 to keep fit and things," said Cat, of Chelburn Close.

"I lost about four stone and then I started getting into longer runs, marathons and more. The furthest I've run is 80 miles to date fundraising for Mind.

"I chose to fundraise for the charity because me and my sister have both suffered from mental illness so we know how it can affect people and they help to disperse the stigma.

"This is the first run I have done which isn't an organised event and is just something I am doing myself so I will have to navigate as well."

Cat, who works in the running store, the Sweat Shop, hopes to arrive in Keswick on the Friday morning after running through night and only stopping to refuel.

Leigh Journal:

She said: "I'll probably stop for a cup of tea and eat a sandwich as I am running along but I will be going through the night.

"I'll run to the Newland Centre where I'll meet a big group of people and take part in the fell running weekend before getting a lift home, hopefully."

Cat hopes to raise as much as she can for Mind, visit justgiving.com/Cat-Dascendis1/ to sponsor her.
