THE deadline for parents to apply for secondary school places is fast approaching.

Applications for secondary school places in the borough will close on October 31 and can be made online via Wigan Council’s website.

Parents will have received information about how to apply if their child is in year six and due to move to year seven next September.

Clr Joanne Platt, Wigan Council’s cabinet member for Children and Young People’s Services, said: “It may be early in the new school year but it is crucial that parents apply now for their child’s secondary school place next year.

“If parents miss the deadline their child is less likely to get a place in their preferred school.

“The online application system is easy to use and the quickest way of filling in the form.”

To apply for a place at a secondary school go to wigan.gov.uk/schooladmissions or for help using the online service call Wigan Council’s School Organisation Team on 01942 486030.
